We are situated in the midst of the glorious North York Moors National Park which offers plenty to fill your days. There are beautiful walks to suit everyone - whether you want an energetic trek across the moors or just a stroll by the river. On a good day, walking on the Glaisdale Rigg offers views of the dales and sea on three sides and there are walks through the woods and by the railway for less exposed walking.
The North York Moors National Park Visitor Centre is further up Eskdale at Danby. It has recently been refurbished and there are wonderful interactive displays and presentations.
Nearby is the pretty village of Goathland, famed for being the fictitious Aidensfield of 'Heartbeat' where you will find tea shops and craft shops.
Even closer is Grosmont - the northern end of the North York Moors Steam Railway which wends its ways deep through the moors to Pickering - going where roads cannot reach.
Just 15 minutes away is Whitby with its historic Abbey, Captain Cook Museum and Dracula connections - to say nothing of its excellent kippers and unbeatable fish and chips!
The pretty fishing villages of Staithes, Runswick Bay and Robin Hoods Bay are all about twenty minutes away, situated on what is known as the Dinosaur Coast so named as it is such a great place for fossil hunting. |

Sandsend is just along the coast from Whitby and is an ideal place for a walk on the beach. There is a delightful art gallery. The Bridge Café serves superb light meals and is very child friendly.
Within an hours' drive you can explore Castle Howard, Rievaulx Abbey, Scarborough or the wonderful walled gardens at Scampston and Helmsley.
Horse riding, golf, sea fishing, reservoir fishing and cycling can all be easily arranged.
